Thatch is “dressed” every 15 to 20 years to remove ragged ends and push loose sections back into place. However, thatched roofs are only renewed completely every 60 to 80 years, so it is a “once in a lifetime” event.

The Thatched Cottage in Bedlam Lane had its old thatch removed and replaced with new reed and a sedge ridge between 4th and 21st May.  Luckily, offloading of the scaffolding and materials did not cause any delays on the single track lane.  

Thatch has a beautiful golden colour when new, but turns grey with age.
