A coffee and cakes morning was held in the Village Hall from 10:30 on Saturday 6th May.
Chicheley’s annual outdoor service to recognise the importance of agriculture in our community was held on Sunday 21st May.
Chicheley’s annual combination of astronomy and gastronomy was held at the home of Pierre and Christine Girard on Saturday 17th June. The event was held in superb weather with clear skies. Members of the Milton Keynes Astronomical Society set up their telescopes, and, after aligning them with celestail north, trained them on the planets Saturn and Jupiter. We had to wait until about 10:30pm before the sky was dark enough, but then the views were spectacular. We could see the rings of Saturn and the moons of Jupiter very clearly. Those of us who do not star gaze regularly, were also impressed by the intense flash of sunlight reflecting off the panels of an Iridium satellite as it passed over Chicheley at around 11:00pm. It was altogether a really enjoyable evening with good food, good company, and amazing planet viewing. Thank you Pierre and Christine for a great event!
Chicheley’s own beer festival took place in glorious sunshine at The Chester Arms over the weekend of 1st and 2nd July. There was a wide selection of real ales and ciders, plus hamburgers and sausages to eat. An eclectic mix of music ranged from a ukulele ensemble, to a band playing late 60s/early 70s classic rock, and a Blues Brothers tribute. The bands achieved the right sound balance by being loud enough to enjoy, but not too loud to disturb villagers who did not participate. It was an enjoyable and fun event, for which the management and staff of The Chester Arms are to be congratulated.
Robert and Claire Ruck-Keene hosted a cheese and wine evening on the evening of Saturday 29th July, to raise funds for St Lawrence Church and Chicheley Village Hall.
