What's Been Happening in Chicheley

St David's Day Supper

Oggies and Leeks.

The inaugural St David’s Day Supper was held in the Village Hall on the evening of Saturday 2nd March.

We enjoyed a typical Chicheley feast, this time featuring Welsh Pasty or Oggie, “lamburgers”, creamed leeks, peas and potatoes. The Wesh Oggie is similar to the Cornish variant. except that it contains lamb rather than beef. There is a dispute whether the Oggie originated in Cornwall or Wales. Wherever its origin, we know is that it was the favoured packed lunch of miners in both locations.

The main course was followed by a spectacular range of desserts, and a tasty selection of Welsh cheeses.

We were entertained by a quiz on lesser know aspects of the Principality, with background music of Welsh origin ranging from Dafydd y Garreg Wen to Duffy.

It was a very successful evening, and many thanks are due to all those who worked so hard to make it a success.
