Supporting charities in Tanzania.
St. Lawrence Church, Chicheley, and the Rotary Club of Newport Pagnell organised jointly a lunch at Brickyard Cottage on Saturday 23rd August.
Funds raised at the event were donated to Southern Africa’s Children, a charity founded in Chicheley in 2002.
The charity supported Hope School in Tanzania. It also made a major contribution to raising awareness globally of the plight of Albinos in Tanzania. Southern Africa’s Children advised the team that made the BBC documentary “The Albino Witchcraft Murders” first shown in 2012.
Update 2023.
The charity's support enabled Hope School to develop to the extent that it became self-funding and no longer needed charitable support. The school continues to flourish.
As a result of increased publicity, the Albino community on Ukurewe Island received significant support from major charities, the Tanzanian government, and corporate donors.
It's objectives being accomplished, the charity Southern Africa's Children was gradually wound down. It's success was due to generous support from Chicheley, the Rotary Club of Newport Pagnell, and other local and national organisations.
