Chicheley’s annual Harvest Festival service will be held at St Lawrence church at 11:00am on Sunday 25th September.  This has always been an important event for rural villages surrounded by fields of arable crops. 

The banner shown in the black and white photograph from the 1910s is carried ahead of the priest and choir at the start of church services, and at important or historic events such as the dedication of the war memorial or “Wayside Cross”.

After more than 100 years of use, the old banner has become too frail to be repaired again and will be retired and put on display in St Lawrence Church.

It will be replaced by a brand new banner purchased from generous donations by those who attend church in Chicheley.  The new banner shown above will be blessed and brought into service by the Venerable Guy Elsmore, Archdeacon of Buckingham during the Harvest Festival.
