On 19th July 2011 family, friends and residents of Chicheley paid their respects at the funeral of Major John Greville Bagot Chester MC.

Major Chester’s family have been associated with Chicheley since 1558 and his ancestor John Chester commissioned the building of the current Chicheley Hall in 1719.

Major Chester gave great support to Chicheley ranging from church maintenance to providing the land for the children's’ play area at Bedlam Walk. He ensured the protection of the countryside around Chicheley, including planting thousands of trees.

He will be remembered fondly, and sadly missed.
