His experience as a Wellington bomber pilot and prisoner of war.
The late, and sadly missed Ted Duncombe was for many years the well-known and well-loved tenant of Grange Fram, Chicheley.
In his early life Ted had a great interest in flying, and qualified as a pilot through a government sponsored scheme shortly before World War 2. He subsequently joined the Royal Air Force and progressed to being a Wellington Bomber pilot.
On his fourth mission, Ted’s plane was shot down, his arm was badly injured, and he spent the remainder of the war in captivity as a Prisoner of War.
Ted’s family kindly permitted the “World Premiere” of a film of his wartime memories to be shown. Chicheley Village Hall was full to capacity, reflecting the interest in, and respect for Ted. In fact a second showing was arranged for a later date.
As usual for Chicheley, the evening was complemented by excellent food.
