Speeding in and around Chicheley
Like many villages in rural Milton Keynes, Chicheley suffers from vehicles speeding through and near the village.
The A422 splits the villages in half, and residents, including schoolchildren and the elderly, have to cross it. There is a 40mph limit through the village, but this is blatantly ignored by many motorists. There are no longer any data to quantify this since the demise of the SIDS.
When the 40mph limit was introduced, small traffic islands were installed in the road at each end of the village. These were effective in preventing overtaking. The islands were removed recently, and since then, overtaking at high speed within the village envelope has become common. With the Hall Lane/Bedlam Lane crossroads with the A422, it is only a matter of time before there is a major accident.
In addition to the safety aspect of speeding within the village, residents are subjected to the noise of motorcycles and cars, often with modified exhausts, using the A509 between Newport Pagnell and Chicheley Hill as a race track. Residents of Chicheley may as well be living on the side of Silverstone racetrack with the noise levels, especially at weekends. It is obvious that many vehicles are significantly exceeding the speed limit on the A509. These vehicles have been seen simply driving up and down the A509 between the roundabouts at high speed, rather than driving to a destination.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Milton Keynes City Council and Thames Valley Police - DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!!!!!
