Death of Thomas Rogers from wounds, 1915

On Monday, October 11th 1915, Mrs. Rogers, of Brickyard Cottages, received official notification that her husband, 31 year old Private Thomas Rogers, had died on September 29th aboard the hospital ship Glenart Castle, from wounds received in action in the Dardanelles. At the outbreak of the war he was employed by Mr. Bazeley at Eakley Lanes, Stoke Goldington, and although he had a wife and six young children he volunteered for active service, and left England on July 28th. He arrived at the Dardanelles on August 15th, and in a letter written on September 20th said that he was in the trenches.
